Located in Mazières en Gâtines, near the city of Niort, the Château du Petit Chêne sits amidst 160 wooded acres and ponds and offers a spectacular 18-hole golf course composed and a restaurant.
The registered monument was the first European acquisition of La Grande Maison Younan Collection, which acquired the castle in 2015. Indeed, the company noted the potential of this castle as it is recognized as a “Certified French Historical Monument” and as such, is a major part of the living history of France as identified by the Center of National Monuments.
Built by the Viault family in the 1600’s, this castle knew only three owners. The most recent owner planned to convert the Chateau to a luxury hotel, but was forced to abandon the project of renovation. The Younan Collection stepped and expanded the vision to renovate the Chateau and expand the hotel space and its grounds and restore it to its original grandeur.
In March of 2016 while in the midst of completing the renovation, the Chateau sustained significant damage as the result of a fire. Because of its historic significance, the Property immediately was secured and protected until there was a complete assessment of the damage. As a national monument, Chateau du Petit Chene is being reconstructed with a respect for history and a commitment to luxury. Everything that could be recovered will be put back as it originally was built. Also, the recovered fractions of the Chateau will be donated to a museum, following the wish of Mr. Younan to remember the past and conserve its heritage.
The 18-hole golf course, designed by Robert Berthet, remains in use and is open to the public. The Golf du Petit Chêne has been masterfully conceived to respect the 400 year-old landscape of lush woods and numerous lakes and offers wonderful views at each step. The course also offers a six-hole pitch and putt, a driving range with covered bays, locker rooms, pro shop and restaurant.
With its grand re-opening set for early 2018, Chateau du Petit Chene and Golf du Petit Chene, soon will become a destination for guests who desire an active, luxurious golf vacation, or simply want to enjoy the pastoral splendor of a singularly unique getaway.
